“As a backgrounder, the late Grace Teskey had called me and Stan Sainnawap to her hospital room in Thunder Bay to discuss her concerns about the patients who have to deal with certain illnesses, one of them being CANCER. She had witnessed a lot of both young and older patients who have this disease and they were sad encounters. She believed that the availability of a CT SCANNER locally would save some lives by early detection of the disease.
Because of her request, the Chiefs of the Wasaya communities have supported this fundraising campaign by making initial pledges and donations to the total amount of over $1/2 million-over 5 years.
It is estimated that the installation and actual equipment costs will be in the $2 million bracket. (ed. $1.5M now) The space for the
CT Scanner has been donated by the hospital Board.”

The CT Scanner Campaign has reached our Goal with Pledges and Donations. Thank you for your tremendous support to purchase a CT Scanner for the new Sioux Lookout Area District Hospital (SLMHC)"Meno Ya Win"

WGI & Menoyawin CT Scanner Campaign
In May 2007, Wasaya Group Inc pledged a $525,000 donation to start the CT Scanner Campaign for the new MenoYaWin Hospital that is being built in Sioux Lookout, ON. The cost of the scanner is estimated to be $1.85 million.
The Sioux Lookout MenoYawin Health Centre (SLMHC) provides services to about 30 communities in the region.
In 2007, Tom Kamenawatamin and Stanley Sainnawap of WGI were welcomed as new Board members of the SLMHC Foundation.
We are actively looking for additional partners whether businesses, organizations, groups, communities, or individuals who want to help fundraise or contribute to the Campaign.
Many thanks to Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug (KI) and Chief Donny Morris who pledged $50,000 towards the Campaign. Many more communities and groups are planning fundraising events to help realize the $1.85 million target.
