A Native venture corporation joins forces with a premier Northern Construction Company
Thunder Bay, ON, October 28, 2011 Wasaya Group Inc and Dowland Contracting Ltd today announced a new joint venture to service the infrastructure needs of growing First Nation communities in Ontario. The companies stated that the joint venture "Wasaya Dowland Contracting" will provide construction capacity to communities in Northern Ontario as well as have the ability to serve clients throughout Ontario & Manitoba.
Wasaya Group President & Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Tom S. Kamenawatamin says that, "The new joint venture is good for the region s First Nations and brings us expertise and capacity that were previously beyond the scope of our remote communities. Project capability such as mine site construction, hydro transmission, and the building of infrastructure such as hospitals, hotels, ice-hockey arenas, and educational institutions are now a reality. Dowland s knowledge and first-hand experience working with Aboriginal groups for 30 years is an added benefit. This new venture gives our people the opportunity to participate in these exciting areas, by gaining valuable experience and industry specific training that will lead to certification, and provide lifelong careers in the heavy construction industry."
Dowland President & Chief Executive Officer Mr. Patrick McGuinness added that "The Wasaya-Dowland joint venture will provide construction expertise to the Wasaya Group. From the training opportunities and apprenticeship programs from this relationship will flow long-term and significant benefits to local First Nation communities. Wasaya Dowland Contracting will undertake large construction initiatives throughout industrial, institutional and commercial sectors. The company will be available to serve the Ring of Fire region should they require our industrial capacity.
