Wasaya Community Economic Development Corporation is overseeing a pilot project that is now in its third year of successful operation.  The
Retail Advisor Project or RAP has placed two experienced Retail Advisors who are working with First Nation Community owned Retail Store
Operations.  The Retail Advisors (RA's)  work directly with local store managers and their store employees to help them access a wider variety of
wholesale merchandise, negotiate better costs, train in general merchandising & sales techniques, product presentation, store planning and
design, improve accounting practices, and provide overall support for the community owned Retail operations and their Board of Directors.

WCEDC is grateful to FEDNOR for providing this much needed support to increase the capacity of First Nations to develop economic initiatives
vital to the region and individual First Nation communities.

           Our Logo:

Wasaya means rising sun in the Oji-Cree dialect and the logo of Wasaya, which depicts a sunburst with eight sunrays, represents each original owner community.
The overall goal of W.C.E.D.C is to make its Economic Development projects attainable, self-sufficient and to provide employment opportunities for ten (10) partner communities.

Our Mission Statement:

1: To promote, initiate, and provide continuing assistance and management of projects designed to foster the community and economic development of the people of the Wasaya First Nations, 2: To promote economic self -Sufficiency through economic independence within the Wasaya First Nations and the region while respecting the traditions and values of the people.

We work with First Nation communities and their Economic Development Officer's (EDO's) to examine projects and synergies that can be developed and lead to sustainable projects in the region.  In addition we reach out to Corporate and Government partners including funding agencies to enhance northern living and promote entrepreneurial opportunities for First Nation community members or their First Nations.

Two recent projects include the Taking Flight Project, a partnership with SLAAMB (Sioux Lookout Area Aboriginal Management Board) to increase Management opportunities for aboriginals in Aviation related careers: and the Retail Advisor Project, a partnership with FedNor and the Wasaya Buying Group that increases the management capacity of Community owned Retail operations.

New Regional Aboriginal Tourism Association:  WCEDC is currently working on developing a new Regional Aboriginal Tourism Association to serve the communities and individuals that require assistance in marketing their wilderness adventures including Eco-Tourism opportunities.
