It was a beautiful sunny day in late September when Wasaya tourism staff visited Fishbasket Camp. The Camp is owned by the community of Nibinamik (Summer Beaver). Fishbasket guests can fly directly to Nibinamik from Thunder Bay and/or Sioux Lookout on a scheduled Wasaya Airways LP flight. Fly another 20 minutes via a Bamaji Air floatplane and your at Fishbasket Lake and the Camp. Bamaji Air is a member of the Wasaya Group of Companies and is majority owned by the Slate Falls First Nation.

Steve Lashinski of Grand Marais, Minnesota, son Andrew Lashinski and Andrew's two friends Brian Finke and Jaret Baker were the lucky winners this year of Wasaya Wilderness Adventures  "Trophy Fishing on Lac Seul Contest".

Steve and the boys traveled the 45 minutes on a scheduled Wasaya Airways flight from Thunder Bay direct to Sioux Lookout. Mahkwa Lodge staff met them at the airport for the drive in to Whitefish Bay on Lac Seul where the lodge is located. Steve and the boys enjoyed 3 comfortable nights lodging and 4 days American Plan meals from August 26 to 29th.

One of the youth said he had "the best time of his life" so far, fishing on Lac Seul.. catching big Walleye and Northern under the watchful eye of an experienced Aboriginal fishing guide. From all reports Steve and the boys experienced spectacular fishing and mouth watering expertly prepared shore lunches. They also looked forward to returning to the lodge each night for tasty homemade turkey, roast beef and rib dinners served by friendly lodge staff.

Stay tuned for news on another great Wasaya Wilderness Adventures Fishing Contest in 2012.
